Hey guys, welcome to the šŸŽƒOctoberšŸŽƒ blog post. šŸ«¶šŸ»āœØ

So, today's topic, as you can see, is about low-maintenance friendships. And the reason why I picked this topic for šŸŽƒOctoberšŸŽƒ is because my friend's birthday is upcoming, and we have the most lowkey yet meaningful friendship. šŸ¤

So, she can treat this as her pre-digital birthday gift. Hahahahaha. šŸŽšŸ˜

I think this is the most underrated type of friendship that I used to not like when I was younger, but as I grew up, I gradually realised the importance of maintaining such relations. šŸ«‚

So, today I am going to talk about basically why you should not get offended when your friends are low-maintenance.

The first thing is, the bond remains the same no matter how long you have gone without talking to each other. šŸ¤šŸ»

I used to be that kind of a friend that you need to talk to me every day in order to be my friend, and with my friend, it's like she is just being herself and I accept that.

I accept that she won't be online because I know that she is doing something productive. Like, the younger version of me would be offended by this, but now I don't make a big deal out of it because she is a great friend, and I know when I'm with her, she gives me her 100%, and that's the best thing about the friendship. šŸ«¶šŸ»

The second thing is, there is no pressure in replying. šŸ“±

I don't expect her to see my messages instantly and give me a reply in the next 5 minutes, and she does not expect that from me either.

And we don't take it personally because we know that our friendship is much bigger than this. šŸ¤

It's not like we are ignoring each other. We just have stuff going on with us that sometimes we just don't find time to give each other.

And that's fine.

That's nothing to be taken personally, and I realised that eventually.

The next thing I have established with her is that when we do meet, we just catch up where we left off.

We just give each other a whole debrief of whatever we have missed out on with each other. Just unfolding all the tea, all the worries, all the thoughts in one go. ā˜•šŸ˜ And also, talking once in a while makes us feel like we are more connected to each other than meeting every time.

And I also want to point out, this is the only girl that won't hesitate to put me in my place. 😭

She will not only agree to agree, but she is okay with agreeing to disagree with me.

She will state her mind, and that's the kind of friend that I want.

Don't agree with me on everything. Have an opinion, because what if I have not thought from that perspective that you could give me?

And I think that's very important. šŸ’

We are similar, yet not similar, and that's why we are so compatible with each other. ✨

The next point is that we don't guilt-trip each other.

I think this is one of the most adult friendships I have, to be honest. If, for some reason, we aren't able to do the thing that we have planned to do, we wouldn't be in each other's skin and fight about that.

Because we have realised that shit happens, and it's okay to change your plan sometimes. šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

Basically, we don't make each other feel bad just because we can't put the plan that we made into action.

And I think that's one thing that we'll realise eventually in our 20s.

That sometimes things just come up, and you have to pull the brakes on a plan, and that's fine.

That's okay.

You wouldn't take it personally if you were mature.

Obviously, don't be blindsighted if they are constantly not making you a priority. 🚩

The next is being there when it actually matters. ā¤ļø

I think that if I ever call up my friend, she will always be there for me.

If I have to call her up and tell her that, you know, I need to talk to you, I think she will listen to me, and that's important: to show up for the people that you care about when it actually matters.

Because you could be spending like 24 hours with me every day, but if you don't show up when I need you, then I don't want you at all.

Make it make sense. 😭

We need to start appreciating the friendships that we have, the genuine ones, and making a point to maintain them, making plans and meeting up every month? Every 6 months? Every year? šŸ«¶šŸ»

But do so, because there will come a time when you might be in different countries, and then you will miss out and regret not meeting each other when you had the opportunity and the resources to do so. šŸŒ

And if you can't meet them physically, you can always hop on video calls with them. šŸ“±šŸ’»

But we should always show up when our friends need us. For whatever reason, it could be the dumbest reason, but sometimes we just need a friend to show up for us, give us reassurance on the most silliest things, and that's what matters. šŸ¤

Be there for your people when they need you. šŸ«‚

And as you grow up, you will realise who your people are, who your inner circle is, who the real ones are, and when you find them, make sure to hold on to them. ✨
